Dear Professor Clark:

I am writing this letter to introduce myself more than in just a small talk in class, where I can tell you more about my life, my opportunities, my dreams, wishes and future life as an engineer.

Choosing to major in Civil Engineering has not been a very difficult choice for me to tell you the truth. Since I was a kid, my desire to solve and invent has always pushed me to think more than a normal kid would do. I remember people telling me I was more curious than I should be, but that is what attracted me more, the mysteriousness. I started to grow up and in middle school, I realized that one of my favorite subjects was math. I was always so happy to work on math exercises and solving problems. It was the thing that I would do for hours and hours and never get tired.

Beside school, one of my greatest motivator to choose this major has been my father. I would say for him that, he is a civil engineer without a degree. That’s how everyone used to call him back home where he was able to do everything an engineer does, having his own construction company, but his up and downs in life made him end up without a degree in his favorite field. However, by the end of High School I realized that a great relation was created. I was a good science student, mainly in math, my desire to be an engineer had been since I was a kid , and I could potentially be my father’s right side if I had the CE degree here in the US. So I had already decided in my mind, I had chosen to be an engineer and I was totally ready to start the challenge on Fall 2018.

Now, my short-term goals are simple, keep an excellent average in college and get to have an internship on Summer 2019, possibly in a construction company. That would allow me to know more and in-depth how my future life as an engineer would look like. But that’s too simple from what I am really aiming for. My plans are that in the future, me and my dad to have our own construction company here in New York City, the same way he had his back home, where the connections would be already built by me during the college life as a civil engineering student. The US is known worldwide as the land of opportunities, and as such, I feel ready to consider and work on every single one to bring me there, on top of the engineers. Nothing comes for free but I believe that my hard work now will soon pay off and I can’t really wait for my future life as an engineer and owner of a construction company.

Sincerely,
Jurgen Borici,
